    FAQ

How big is PVXC?  We are estimated to be the largest XC team in the state of Florida....but we are too busy running to verify...smh!  Our largest year was 2019 with 182 PVXCers.  In 2022 we topped out at 162 PVXCers.

How long is the XC season?  5 to 6 months!  XC begins with optional summer training.  Two weeks prior to school starting the official season begins.  JV season ends mid-October and Varsity season ends mid-November.

When is practice?  For the summer months of June and July, we host optional practices about 3 - 4 weekdays per week at 6:55 am.  We select different locations every week so our PVXCers get a different feel/look.  Once school begins, practices are Monday - Thursday at 6:25 am at PVHS.

Does PVXC make cuts?  While we do not make cuts based on ability for freshmen, we do make decisions on one's ever-growing level of Try and Commitment.

How much does PVXC cost?  Team fees are anywhere from $225 to $250 per PVXCer per season.  There is also a $40 athletic department fee payable to the AD's office by the first competition.  Throw in a couple pair of good training shoes, some running shorts/socks, and few other odds/ends and you are looking at about $500 all-in per season.

Do I need a watch? Yes...yes you do!

When are XC meets?  Our meets are typically Saturday mornings from the end of August to mid-November.  We will usually meet at the school on Saturday morning around 5:00 am and load 2-3 busses.

How long is a race?  5K/3.1 miles and the distance seems shorter every time you race!

How many miles will I run every week? Fitness abilities vary greatly.  Those new to running, or sport in general, will train up to 20 miles per week by mid season.  Those with experience and tenure will train anywhere from 30-50 miles week.

How many PVXCers make varsity?  Cross Country is a very tangible and measurable sport.  A XC race allows 7 to 10 runners to race in a varsity meet.  During a regular season, we will shift our Varsity runners around, but typically the top 15 have an opportunity to race in a varsity meet a few times per season.
