Spikes and Spurs Meet Recap

The Ponte Vedra Girls Cross Country team opened the season with a win at the 15th Annual Spikes & Spurs Classic at the Flagler County Fairgrounds. Like golf, the lowest score wins in XC and that was PV with just 37 points, with the closest competitor 18 points back. Timewise, Ponte Vedra finished on average 40s per runner ahead of 2nd place!

Top individual finishes go to Piper Ross and Savannah Lavasser, who finished 1-2 overall after Piper passed her teammate late for the top position. Piper’s first meet win comes in her first race for the team and indicates great things to come. Other runners scoring were Mary Chase Fender, Rio Ossi, and Sasha Chandlee, with freshman Lucy Lommel and Harlee Howton also contributing by displacing other team's scoring runners. The Ponte Vedra Boys Cross team had a strong finish of 2nd overall, behind 4A winner Flagler Palm Coast. The boys ran together in a pack and jumped out to an early lead at the 1K mark. Finishing 21 points behind first and 19 ahead of third they ran well as a pack often coming across the finish line in groups of 2 or 3. With a close race against a larger opponent the season is off to a great start.

Luke Ross finished 2nd overall in a hard-fought battle with the eventual winner. Rising sophomore Colin Bovee was PV's 2nd runner with a massive 42 second PR! Rounding out the top 5 were Cooper Hunt, Jasper Graham and Aiden Killoran. Playing the spoilers were freshman Liam Heffernan and senior Nate Marciani finishing less than a second apart. PVXC Sponsorship Update: August 23^rd

PVXC Family, the sponsorship drive officially ended yesterday, but we are still making one final push. In the last week, 15 more families, including two anonymous donors, stepped up to bring us within $1,100 of our $27,800 goal. After yesterday’s meet, we hope a few more families will be inspired to help us cross the finish line. We are so close.
